Bike trading simplified sustainably
Our aim is to build a circular economy, reducing bicycle waste by incentivizing sellers to use our site. Promoting green transport is a key facet of our commitment to sustainability, and we support the UK’s goal to reach net zero by 2050. By encouraging bicycle transport, we can drastically decrease carbon emissions and improve overall air quality around the country. Recent research has shown that 56% of all car journeys in the UK cover a distance of less than 5 miles, showing the scope of possibility for green transport to overtake traditional models. OxBikes aims to be a part of that change.
Oxford is a city designed for cycling. The council are investing to make cycling the most efficient means of transport, but the bike marketplace remains inefficient. Used bikes are left and cleared by the council; new bikes are imported for purchase. OxBikes was set up to facilitate bicycle trading and renting. We help both students and residents in Oxford purchase a bike for less or begin an affordable rental scheme to get around affordably. Find out more about the rental scheme here.
Donated bicycles: We donate all profits raised from a donated bike to World Bicycle Relief, a charity who meet the need for reliable transportation in developing regions.
It really couldn't be easier. We provide the meeting point for the buyer and seller, taking a transparent fee of £8 per sale or £29.99 bicycle rental per university term.
We want to provide people in Oxford with easy access to bikes, reducing waste at the same time. As Oxford graduates, we know how important it is for students to have a bike and how much of a hassle it can be to get one at a good price. Oxford has a reputation as a city for cycling, and we want to play a part in strengthening that and improving air quality for students and residents alike.
